More Names

Names must be on my mind since this is the second post about them.  But this one is about personal names.  Last month I took my "vacation" in Birmingham, AL at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research.  This year I took the course on English research and learned about an interesting web site called the One Name Guild.

One Name Guild studies unusual or one of a kind names.  I tried desparately to make one of my names fit but, alas, no luck.  You, however, may have the stars on your side.  Give it a try. If your name is in their database you may have a whole new resource for family information.

Find the Data is another Surname/Family Name site that allows users to sort surnames based on popularity, rank, total in US, demographic, and more. There are over 125,000 surnames listed and the information comes directly from the U.S. Social Security Department so you know that it is reliable.

This site seems to be affiliated with Findthebest.com which is a highly regarded comparison site. I like it because it provides comparisons for products, like mattresses, that Consumer Reports doesn't cover.

Thanks. I found two of my family names on the One Name guild: Brumfield & Mark. I contacted them and we will see what happens next. I appreciate the tip! Colleen

The Family Names site is interesting. I have bookmarked it for future use (after checking out two of our acestral names).
